This time it’s a Bulgarian astrologer named Emil Leshtanski, who predicted 800,000 people would be killed by a massive earthquake that would hit the city of Haskovo on Easter night. And guess what happened. Yup, nothing.
But the abysmal track record of psychics and charlatans didn’t stop hundreds of people from sleeping in tents and in their cars for fear of being crushed by collapsing buildings.
But I bet Leshtanski wishes something horrible did happen to all those people because they’re majorly pissed off and want to prosecute Leshtanski for spreading false information and inciting a panic.
Amateur Scientist doesn’t think this warrents legal action:
If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail. But while it’s always good for a fraud to be so publicly exposed, I’m not sure prosecution is in order. People, after all, should have freedom of speech. Though it could be said that telling an entire city they’re all going to die is the same as shouting “fire” in a crowded theater. Still, it’s not unreasonable to assume that the person shouting “fire” might have actually seen a fire. But believing someone who says the Earth is going to shake because of how the stars are positioned?
But I disagree. I’m a huge free speech advocate but one of the few exeptions to free speech I agree with is the proverbial “shouting fire in a crowded theater” and I think this absolutely is akin to the “shouting fire in a crowded theater” scenario.
Leshtanski incited panic and hysteria, which endangered lives. And while I love Amateur Scientist, I think he runs the risk here of seeming like he’s blaming the victims for being gullible enough to believe a reading of the stars signaled threat. But whether it’s shouting fire or a baseless Chicken Little-like cry that the sky is falling based on astrological signs, its just as real to those driven to a panic. So I’m happy that the stars are telling me a prison cell is in Leshtanski’s future.

Yeah, I don’t buy the argument. I don’t think the above example bares any resemblance whatsoever to the riots over the Denmark cartoon, which was merely a cartoon and not a direct threat of actual danger. Even if Muslims somehow believed that it was a threat of actual danger, that’s not a reasonable conclusion and therefore the cartoonists can’t be reasonably faulted for the actions. Sure, they knew Muslims would be pissed, maybe even knew it would cause riots but they didn’t at any point tell Muslims that their lives were in physical danger when they weren’t. This psychic and the hypothetical man shouting fire in a crowded theater are DIRECTLY threatening people’s lives. It doesn’t matter that the psychic is not claiming that he himself will be the cause of the threat, only that he’s threatening people’s lives and directly inciting panic and hysteria. That’s completely different than just making an offensive cartoon knowing it will piss off irrational people who might overreact and commit violence because of it, which falls into the category of obscenity laws, which I strongly oppose. While the victims here are guilty of being gullible, their response was not an overreaction but quite reasonable given the perceived threat. But I find this “blame the victim” position no better than saying a rape victim deserved it because of the way she dressed.
Great Post
I really enjoy reading it
Best Wishes.
Dear Friends
I don”t have the idea that astrologer Emil Leshtanski had any wrong intentions. He sincerly though that Bulgaria was in danger. How ever he was slightly wrong, as all humans can make mistakes.
How ever he is absolutly right, Bulgaria still is in very serious danger of being hit by a very severe earthquake. No astrologer is needed to see that Bulgaria is strucked by small earthquakes every few weeks.
The fact that Bulgaria and Romania are been kept of the euro-zone has little to do with the Bulgarian mafia but only with the possibilty of a huge earthquake with serious consequences for the eurozone. Seimiclogical reports kept Bulgaria out of the eurozone.
This earthquake might take place in the month of mai (so within weeks).
many planets will shift position within a few weeks. In vedic astrology major earthquakes happen when jupiter shifts position
Most likely around 8 mai or few weeks after.
The earthquake will destroy south europe completly.
So mr Emil Leshtanski will be right after all.
On the night of 7 mai jupiter will shift position and will enter aries.
lets prepare for the worst
