At their national convention in Minneapolis, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America voted to permit gay pastors. This marks one more step towards gay acceptance in a year that brought the legalization of gay marriage to numerous states in the union. See other Christians. You can accept the homosexuality of others and the sky won’t fall. It’s okay. Though why a gay person would want to preach a book that so blatantly condemns them and their behavior is beyond me. Guys, nobody has been more accepting of gays than the atheist community. And we could always use more people on our team, especially those who know the Bible inside and out.

This is quite a dangerous decision. Allowing homosexuals to serve as clergy will confuse a lot of people.
Confuse them? How so?
There are many sins listed in the Bible. Are clergy rejected because they are sometimes guilty of lust, vanity, pride or avarice? No. So why is the “sin” of homosexuality treated differently. (Note that most churches allowing gay clergy insist that they be celibate. That is though tempted into sin, they are to resist. It’s no more than the Catholics do with all their priests.)
Having homosexual clergy won’t “confuse” people. It will alarm the bigots. Good.
We have the same terror expressed about female clergy, and about coloured clergy in White congregations despite exactly zero Biblical rules to prevent them. Bigotry rules in these cases, not the Bible.
This is just appalling. If Luther, the late German Christian protester, would still be here…where the denomination “Lutherans” derived from, he would be stunned and completely disappointed in this horrible abomination to the Word of God and the Gospel. I totally am against this election. When God created “man” he created Adam and Eve, NOT Adam and STEVE!!! Hello people. This is a direct form of disobedience to God. And this is happening in a Church, a denomination that professes to know the Word of God???? Please, God will have to deal with you guys…and it won’t be pretty.
Actually, it was Adam & Lilith. The Lilith ate all her kids as your god designed her to do, and then that god cursed her. Then God went all Temple of Doom and ripped Adam’s rib out of his chest to create Eve. Eve, another perfectly designed creature created by god proved just as disappointing as Lilith. But at least she had kids. Then the sexual coupling went: Adam & Eve’s kid#1 and Adam & Eve’s kid#2, Adam & Eve’s kid#3 and Adam & Eve’s kid#4, etc. Then the expression became: “God created Lot and Salt, not Lot and Pepper.” Then it was “God created Lot and Daughter, not Lot and Son.” Then we get to Abraham, and the expression became “God created Abraham and wife and servant, not Abraham and wife.” And then for a while the coupling involved one man and hundreds of women.
There’s this fascinating book called The Bible. You should try reading it some time.
Here’s a quick summary:
Basing your views on what a medieval person thought is probably not a good idea on what to think now.
Infected wound? Ignore cleanliness and get in the astrologer!
Peasants wanting more rights? Kill them! (The Peasant Revolt shows that Luther was no democrat, even by the standards of his time.)
Sanitation? Work of the Devil!
What if God created Man and Woman? How does that affect who should be a Minister? Are gay men not created by God in his image?
As I say, the bigots will hate it, but their arguments will come from their homophobia, not any strong Biblical injunctions.
